In the true spirit of empowerment, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Greater Miami Chapter, inspired women to reach for their goals at their 1st Women’s Empowerment Conference. The event took place on Saturday, September 13 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood and attracted over 100 women from across South Florida. The conference was an expanded version of the organization’s annual Women’s Empowerment Breakfast.
The conference featured three dynamic sessions that focused on preparing women in terms of mind, body and spirit, financially, and to assume positions of power. Each session was moderated well known local celebrities and prominent women: The Healthier You session was moderated by Hot 105 FM on-air personality Karen Vaughn, the Teen Forum led by NCBW members Teresa Sands and Merdochey LaFrance, Dollars and Sense headed by Miami Herald writer Natalie McNeal, and the final session of the day, Preparing for a Position of Power , led by NBC 6 anchor/reporter and meteorologist Trina Robinson. The panelists were equally as renown, representing fields across both the private and public sectors.
A highlight of the day’s activities was the luncheon keynote speaker, the Honorable Shirley Gibson, Mayor of Miami Gardens, who enlightened the attendees with her account of the joys, trials and tribulations of incorporating her city. Additionally, there were a myriad of vendors on hand offering everything from jewelry to financial advice. The NCBW 100 members are extremely pleased with the success of the event, and are eager to plan for next year.
