National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Greater Miami Chapter has signed on as a Workplace Partner with Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency.  This program aims to educate the community about organ and tissue donation through educational efforts in the workplace.

Transplantation is one of the most remarkable success stories in the history of medicine. It provides hope and life to thousands of people with organ failure. In addition, transplanted tissue offers hundreds of thousands of people an active and renewed life. But transplantation can only happen with the generosity of organ and tissue donors. Unfortunately, the need for donors is much greater than the number of people who actually donate. In fact, due to a lack of available organs, about 20 people die each day waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

You have the power to change someone’s world by giving the most precious gift: Life. If you decide to be a donor, sign and carry a donor card or place “organ donor” on your license and share your decision with your family.

Did you know:

  • Every organ donor can save the lives of up to 8 people and tissue donors can enhance the lives of up to 50 others.
  • People of all ages and medical histories should consider themselves potential donors.
  • Tissue is needed to replace bone, tendons and ligaments lost to severe trauma, cancer and other diseases. Corneas restore sight, heart valves repair cardiac defects and damage, and skin grafts help burn patients heal.
  • All major organized religions support organ and tissue donation and view it as an unselfish act of love and generosity toward others.
